Planning Your Winter Wedding at Blackwell Grange

Planning Your Winter Wedding at Blackwell Grange

As temperatures plummet and nights draw in, the team at Blackwell Grange can be found busily preparing
for one of the most romantic wedding seasons of all.

From cosy colour schemes to wonderfully warming seasonal cocktails, winter weddings at Blackwell Grange are symbolised by roaring fires, twinkling candlelight and glorious Cotswold countryside – perhaps with a dusting of snow if you’re really lucky.

Let’s take a look at some of the key things to consider when planning
your winter wedding.

Colour choices

Winter invites an abundance of cool and rich colour schemes; from a silver and white winter wonderland theme to deep, cosy shades of pinks and reds, paired with brassy golds and greens. Carry your colour scheme through flowers, stationery, table design and bridesmaid dresses.

Design details

Choosing a wedding venue in the Cotswolds guarantees that you’re surrounded by nature. Bring a little of the outside in for your winter wedding, including berries, pine cones, luscious foliage and seasonal flowers. Throughout December, beautiful Christmas trees stand in both the Thatch Barn and the Orchard Barn.

Tip - why not decorate the trees to match your own winter wedding colour scheme?

With its magnificent open fire and underfloor heating, the cosy Thatch Barn is the perfect setting for your winter wedding ceremony. Highlight the fireplace with some lovely winter arrangements such as candles and flower or foliage garlands. Opt for romantic ambient lighting with only the aisle lights illuminated and tea lights in the air vents of the barn walls.

In the Orchard Barn, stunning chandeliers adorn the ceilings for an air of sophistication. Carry your floral theme through to the bar and your wedding breakfast design and be sure to incorporate plenty of candles into your arrangements.

Seasonal menus

Our talented catering team pride themselves on offering exquisite seasonal menus. Once you have booked your date, it’s time to discuss the different options available for your winter wedding. You might like to start with a selection of hot canapés, moving on to a hot smoked fillet of salmon, fillet of beef and a trio of desserts. You decide.

Consider a ‘boozy hot chocolate station’ or mulled wine stall for the perfect winter warmers.

As day turns to evening and your evening celebrations commence, delight your guests once again with wood fired pizza from our outdoor pizza oven in the Walled Herb Garden.

Thoughtful details

Winter favours are a lovely touch and really bring a table setting to life. You might decide to give each guest a Christmas tree bauble or use a glitter pine cone on each place setting. Edible favours for winter might include delicate gingerbread cookies, delicious chocolate truffles or individual s’more gift bags.

Steph and Zeb’s Winter Wedding

Dreaming of an elegant winter wedding with great food and a cosy, romantic feel, Stephanie and Zebulun fell in love with Blackwell Grange.

““We loved the romantic, rustic Cotswolds style and the contemporary elegance of the Orchard Barn.” ”

Stephanie

Wedding day details

The couple chose a colour scheme of burgundy, blush pink and rose gold, adding delicate English flowers across the fireplace in the Thatch Barn and lining the aisle with lanterns and rose petals.

Stephanie’s fabulous dress was hand-made by her mother and inspired by a gown she had seen on Pinterest.

Meanwhile, the groom looked the part in a grey tweed suit with burgundy detail from Empire Outlet, completing the look with burgundy brogues and a burgundy tie.

The wedding day

Following their romantic ceremony in the Thatch Barn, a drinks reception was held in the Orchard Barn.

An exquisite wedding breakfast created by the venue’s expert catering team began with a smoked bacon Scotch egg, followed by fillet of beef and for dessert, triple chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.

““The brownie was raved about by our guests, both adults and children!” ”

Stephanie

Delicious wood fired pizza proved the perfect choice for evening dining.

Winter wedding tip from the bride

“Make sure you prepare for all types of weather. We had a snow day which caused our guests to be slightly late and my father’s car had to be pushed through the snow.”
